Backcare Workshops:

Heightened awareness of good ergonomic practices is an important first step in the prevention of injuries. Back pain affects over 80% of Canadians. After the common cold, it is now the number one cause of absenteeism at work. Back pain is of such epidemic proportions, that today it represents a loss of well over five billion dollars annually to the Canadian economy, resulting in double digit health care inflation, and in significant losses to corporate profits and public funds.

In its Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Ministry of Labour has mandated that all workplaces give their employees appropriate knowledge and training on safety issues.

According to the needs and job description of your employees, the workshops focus on injury prevention and safe practices for many topics including, sitting, standing, lifting, workstation set-up, computers, desks, and outside work activities. Methods of returning sooner to the workplace after injury can also be covered.

The length of the workshops can range from 30 to 60 minutes, and are presented at your location. Although readily offered at any time during the day or evening, Lunch and Learn sessions are very popular.

On-Site Ergonomic Assessments:

Today, companies demand higher productivity in lesser time, which in turn requires employees to spend more hours at work, either operating heavy equipment or working in front of computers. This trend speeds up the pace of operations, and tends to eventually lead to workplace injuries.

To isolate the factors that are contributing to these injuries, it is beneficial for companies and organizations to have an ergonomic assessment performed on all employees, particularly those who are suffering pain while at work.

Dr. Collis offers a complete on-site ergonomic workstation assessments for your employees. Significant adjustments and modifications are often made with the employee at the time of the assessment.  Included is a full written report that includes advice and recommendations for workstation modifications if required. This report will also act as an effective tool for the prevention of future work-station injuries.
